David Holtzman knows all about artificial intelligence and its threat to novelists. He owns one of the original servers used to build the internet and has served as a military intelligence professional, author, and White House adviser on technology issues.
He will speak at our Tuesday, July 8, Zoom monthly meeting. “I think humanity is due for a bit of a shakeup because we’ve given too much power to institutions in the last fifty years,” he says.
Here are five ways he thinks AI will affect fiction writers:
· Aid in sampling of online material.
· A reference tool for writing, like a thesaurus or grammar checker.
· A helper like a research assistant who can also write summaries.
· A character or plot device in a novel.
· And finally, competition. AI will soon write the simpler genre books. But they’re never going to challenge well-written novels crafted by good authors. What will this mean for most of us?
David will discuss the pros and cons of AI and how it could help and harm your writing career. This is a must-see program because AI will have a major impact on your writing career over the coming decades. Don’t miss it.
